LEAVE AND SICK LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

VACATION LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

Employees are entitled to 192 hours of paid annual leave (24 working days), 4 days of which should not form part of a factory shut down.

SICK LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

Sick leave entitlement varies from one economic sector to another. For economic sectors that are not regulated by the relevant Wage Regulation Orders, sick leave amounts to two working weeks per year.

SELF-EMPLOYED - When a person is self-employed and pays the social security contributions, then the person is entitled to receive sickness benefits. If a self employed is still sick after 3 working days, (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays), he/she can claim sickness benefits upon presentation of a medical certificate to the Social Security Department.

EMPLOYEES - Assuming that the employee has not already exhausted his/her annual paid sick leave entitlement, the first three consecutive days of sick leave availed of by the employee are paid in full by the employer.  From the fourth consecutive day of paid sick leave (on full pay) availed of, the employer is to pay the employee his/her full wage less the amount equivalent to the sum set for sickness benefit entitlement at the rate established under the Social Security Act.
