SME Fund (Trademark and/or Design)

SME Fund - 50% reimbursement on trade mark and design basic application fees

The SME Fund offers financial support in the form of reimbursements for trade mark and design applications. The Fund opened for applications on 11 January 2021 through a series of application windows that is running throughout 2021. The SME Fund is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises based in the 27 EU Member States.

In this regard, the Commerce Department is collaborating with the EUIPO to offer financial support/grants to those SMEs by providing a 50% of the equivalent application fee of the eligible national or EU Intellectual Property rights (Trademarks and Designs). The grants consist of a partial reimbursement of costs to the beneficiary, up to a maximum of €1,500 per beneficiary.

Applicants will need to click on https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/en/online-services/sme-fund and proceed with filling the relative application form. SME’s must first apply for the grant and wait for the grant decision. After receiving the grant decision, the SME can apply for their trademark and/or design on https://ips.gov.mt/ or for an EU application on https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/en/apply-now and thereafter, for the reimbursement of the basic application fee with the EUIPO.
