Dealers in
precious metals and stones must obtain a licence that is issued
by the Commerce Department by applying
on this electronic
form. It is to be noted that the issue or granting
of such a licence is not automatic
but will depend on
the outcome of the processing of the application. A DPMS licence carries no fee and may be
renewed every three years on request. The renewal of the licence
will (also), not involve any charges .
It is to be clarified that those persons who were registered with the VAT
Department up to and including 1st January 2021, to carry out a
commercial activity which involves the dealing in precious metals and stones, are
deemed to be automatically
licensed by the Trade Licensing Unit to carry out that same activity after said
date. The automatic licence carries no fee and may be renewed every three years on request.
The renewal of the licence will also not involve any charges.
The activities
considered as involving the dealing in precious metals and stones include the following:
- Precious metals production;
- Manufacture of jewellery and related articles;
- Wholesale of watches and jewellery;
- Wholesale of gold and other precious metals;
- Wholesale of precious stones; and
- Retail sale of watches, jewellery, precious stones and metals
